When you are preparing your soil for your grass , you want to loosen it and level out all of the rough materials. Once you do your initial raking, you should use a finer rake to free the surface of anything that is larger than ½ inch like stones or wood debris.

The soil should create a fluffy surface so the grass seed can sit. You want to get good soil and seed contact to give the grass the best chance to grow. You should not rake the soil when it is too dry or too wet or it will not create the surface you need.

Check out this video to learn more about preparing your soil. When you can get the soil in the right shape, it is much easier to plant grass in Mesquite that will grow in beautifully.
